Trying to come up with a title.

The script is about a serial rapist/killer who goes around committing crimes, cause of his difficulties with achieve success with the opposite sex. I was thinking Loverboy would be a good title cause it explains the problems with the character. But will audiences misread the intentions of the title and have see the movie as something else, therefore?

Only if the poster misleads them. Use an image of stomped roses or bloodied heart chocolates and it will be pretty clear.

Well there are a couple of reasonably well known movies called 'Loverboy' already, though that's not necessarily a deal-breaker. Seems a good opportunity to come up with a better title, though.

Why not let this thread be a collection of alternative title suggestions from the talented folks here at DVXUser? I'll start...

"The Perfect Guy" (That is what he wants some woman to think of him as. And perhaps many of his victims do....until it's too late.)

"Terror Eyes" (Tag: "He sees. He wants. He kills!")

"Wanton" (Definitions of the word include "hard to control", "causing sexual excitement", "without provocation", "being without check or limitation", and my favorite - "merciless, inhumane".)

C'mon guys and gals. Who's got some good titles for ironpony?

Ideally your title should also be found in your logline, so look first to your logline, or recraft your logline.
Consider, e.g.: Home Alone, Speed, Titanic, The Ring, The Village, Dolphin Tale, etc.

Excellent point!

On the other hand, don't get toooo locked in to that idea. After all, there are plenty of examples of movie titles that had, at best, only a tenuous connection to the logline. A few that come to mind are "Memento", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", and "What Dreams May Come".

The obvious title would be LADY KILLER...but that's been used a lot. How about SLAY ME?

side note:

is this supposed to be a horror movie?

your making a movie from a serial killer/rapist perspective, and also trying to make him sympathetic through a back-story and some psychological problems he might have?

this is wrong on so many levels.

Thank you for bringing your own personal feelings to the table, however I don't think enough information was given to surmise that he's "sympathetic" or even that he's the protagonist.

it is pretty clear to me. English is my 4th language, so i might be slightly off. maybe if you described the script differently, for example, a criminal investigation involving a serial killer. or a woman targeted by a serial killer or something else...

you mentioned about a serial killer, and then started to disclose his reasoning for doing the acts. and you didn't mention any other characters in the script.

I doubt the killer is the hero of the piece, although anything is possible. Since that would directly affect the title, it would be good to know for sure.

he doesn't have to be the "hero" or "protagonist". in horror or slasher films, the main character is usually the villain. Dracula, Halloween, or Friday the 13th, etc...
but in this story, it sounds like a glorification of a serial killer/rapist with a human side (and whatever else gore and torture porn that may lay ahead). that's just wrong, if there is a line somewhere that should not be crossed, it's been run over.

That's the thing. There is no line. He's free to do with his screenplay whatever he wants. There's no line or morality. It's up to you to decide whether or not you want to see/read it.

That's because Silence of the Lambs is about Hannibal Lecter, even though Clarice is the main character. When you sum up your film, you should always note the most interesting aspect of it. Obviously, a logline has to say who the main character is and what their plight/dilemma is, but for a quick summation posted on a film forum, I don't think it's necessary to tell us anything more than the necessary info, which at present is: "My script is about a serial rapist/killer; will the title LOVERBOY confuse people into thinking it's something other than what it is?"

None of this is helpful. The OP didn't ask us to critique his story idea. All he asked us for is suggestions for a title. If he gives us a bit more info about the storyline, it would probably help us come up with better title suggestions. But for now......how about some title ideas???

Well since he is the character that starts the whole premise I felt that the title should be based on the premise. It can be the premise itself and not him.

It's hard to choose a good title with a limited amount of information about the story. Can you give us a bit more info about this dude? You've alluded to his motive. How about his M.O. Does he select his victims at random? Are his crimes ritualistic? Is he calculated and systematic or completely without control?

Well he chooses women that would likely feel they are too good for him, or feel they did something to deserve it. Not they did, but to him, they did. He doesn't do anything ritualistic, he just commits the crimes very carefully, not be to caught. It's more about figuring him out and catching him, rather than the crimes itself.
