Trying to apply widescreen matte to JPEG

I've got a JPEG that i've imported into my project, dragged to the sequence, and am trying to apply a Widescreen matte to it, but it's not taking. Any suggestions? Thanks, Franch.

Make sure you make your JPEG a freeze frame or of long enough duration to apply a widescreen matte. Then go EFFECTS/VISUAL FILTERS/MATTE/WIDESCREEN and plop that onto the clip.

Still no luck after making a freeze frame, a solid 10 seconds long... i'm also trying to apply a scale effect to the still if that makes any difference.

If your jpg is moving then the widescreen matte won't work. Actually, it'll work but it will move with the jpg. You'd have to build a mask and put on a layer above.

If it's not moving then as long as the jpg scaled to fit the screen then the matte will work. I just did it no problem.

On a similar topic. How would one "matte" their 24pa footage that was shoot WITHOUT the 16X9 masking bars on top and bottom? Can it be done? Basically I've got a 4X3 image I want to look widescreen.
thanks!
