Troublesome Client

I have this client that Ive been working with for about 8 months, filming an event for him on a monthly basis. I chose to work with him b/c I felt that once what he had going grew, he would take me and my business with him so that I could grow too.

So after doing the first show for free, I told him that I would shoot, edit, and print to DVD for $500. Mind you, there are 3 cameras, which means I need to pay the operators, and I'm putting 10-20 hrs in towards editing.

Like I said before, its been about 8 months, and Ive told him I need more money, yet I don't want to burn any bridges.

What's a good way to approach this client and get my works worth?
And whats a good rate to charge? (Its 2-3 hours of filming with 3 cameras)

just state your rate. It doesnt not have to be a heated negotiation and it should not be a negotiation at all. You did a favor to get your foot in the door and now it's in. You have a living to make and thats not gonna happen making DVDs at 500 bucks a pop. Because most cameramen are well over 500 a day and your client is not going to find an edit suite for less than a grand a day, simply state your rate.
