Trouble with P2 and FCP

I did a multi camera shoot last weekend with another shooter and he transferred the content folders/mxf files from his P2 cards through his computer to my hard drive. When I went to log and transfer, the mxf files were missing.

Is there any way to access or another place to find these mxf files? I'm missing several hours of footage.

Thanks in advance.

ALL of the MXF files are missing? That is the most important part...that is the footage! Do you have a folder containing a CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.TXT file? And then in the CONTENTS folder, 6 subfolders, one called CLIPS? and that is empty?

This is all something you need to verify before the guy leaves...that the footage is there. Before the cards are erased.

And this is why it is very important to use software to offload the footage, so that you know all of the files are being copied, and that the copy is verfied. ShotPut Pro is what I use.... www.imagineproducts.com.

The second shooter copied over the contents folder for each of 3-4 cards. For one of them, the content folder has the 6 subfolders. They are empty. For another there is only an audio subfolder, which is also empty.

Well, unless they still have the footage on the cards, you are SOL. The copy process didn't happen properly, and files are missing. This is the reason I use ShotPut Pro. This happened to me once, but I was only missing a couple shots from a card, not a full card. Add ShotPut to your list, or tell them to get it on theirs.

But if their cards have been erased, then you are out of luck.

You don't have anything on the drive. One drive you said has the folders but the folders are empty. And the other only has an audio folder. You can't make something from nothing. There is nothing there, so you can't make video from it.

Have they erased the cards?

what is the file size of the folders on your harddrive? if they are small there there is nothing there... if the folders are multiple gigs then there is a chance there is something in the folders...

Thanks for all the responses.

A conservative estimate is that there is about 80 gigs worth of footage in these folders. I am missing 40-50 gigs worth of that footage.

I'll post some screen grabs in the near future.

Thanks again.

HOLY CRAP DUDE! Resize your pictures. Those are HUGE!!!

Yup...the subfolders are there, but there is nothing in them. That means that there is no footage. And if the cards have been erased...then the footage is lost for good.

Happened to me. Dude forgot to transfer something then erased the cards.Had to reshoot at the cost of the camera operator ($100,000.00 shoot)
