Trouble with my Fostex

I recently videotaped a wedding and as a backup, I setup my FR2 in front of the DJ's speaker. As it turned out, some my onboard sound came out like crap and I needed to use the backup on the recorder. I copied the file into my computer and all seemed well until I tried to play it back or import it into Vegas 6.0d. I can not play the file in the Windows Media player although it will playback in Quicktime. Nor can I open it in Vegas or Acid Express, I keep getting a read error. The file appears to be fine, it is PCM, 2.18 gig, 48khz/24 bit/1152 kbps. Any ideas on what might be wrong and how I can fix it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. </IMG>

Your file spec doesn't make sense. THe kbps would imply an MP3 recording not a PCM.

I'm going to assume the first part is correct and the kbps is an error. Fostex has an error in the way they write BWAV file headers. Soundminer has a function to fix it but I'm not sure how else to do it. This error usually doesn't make it unplayable, so this may not be your problem, but it does cause some problems so ?? You should make sure you have current firmware in the recorder as I think they have fixed the issue in an update. If it will play in Quicktime I would try exporting it from Quicktime (requires Quicktime Pro). The other thing that may be happening is that the second part of your file spec is correct and you have MP3 or MPEG2 files. In that case you probably have to IMPORT them into Vegas, since I doubt it will use them directly.
