trouble with motion menus in Encore...

I was reading some posts on DVD applications becuase I'm having a problem creating motion menus in Encore. I've created a few dvd's already, but everything was static. I have premiere pro, after effects 6.0, photoshop 7.0 and CS, encore 1.0, and am familar with it all. I just can't get anything with motion to work.

Bascially, in the menu, i have an image of a room with a projector and I wanted the video to be projected on that screen. So I created all the stuff in photoshop in layers and the like, then i imported the ps project into AE. Then in AE i animated the reels of the projector and the flickers light and added the video. From there i'm not sure what to do? I tried rendered the whole comp out as an .avi and an .m2v But When i try to put it together in encore it doesn't work. Is there an easy method to do this?

I just wanted a background to be playing...( the whole screen ) and then the buttons in layers over that.

Does it matter that I have the background video in .avi or .m2v? I guess I'm just asking how do I have a background video?

:undecided

encore 1.0 is EXTREMELY buggy... I know that doesn't help your current problem, but just a heads up.. I ran into the following problem and I had to recreate my project from scratch! Lets just say I wasn't very happy about it and hopefully I can help you avoid the same frustration..

"To avoid the problem in the first place- let Encore transcode all assets as part of the build process (i.e. don't use Transcode Now in Encore 1.0.1). "

If you want to stick with the adobe platform then I highly recommend starting your project with at least encore 1.5 (or 2 is even better) to keep your sanity.. Plus the workflow on the newer versions is much much better between AE, premiere, and encore..

Ok, now onto your problem (I'm using 1.5 so assuming nothing has changed..)

1) Open your Encore Project
2) Make sure you select the "Project" tab so you can see your assets (especially the video you want to play in the background... it can be an .avi)
3) Now go to the Toolbar > Menu > New Menu ( a default menu titled NTSC_Radiant Menu should open)
4) In the Properties window, grab the "whip tool" for the VIDEO property and drag it over to the video you want to play in the background.

That's it!

actually no. I just have a video file and was trying to replace the still background with a moving one. I was under the impression that the (%) was for a place holder for a thumbnail.

Encore's help thing says this:

To create a video background for a menu:

To add the video to the menu, do one of the following actions:
  • Drag the Video pick whip in the Properties palette to the video you want in the Project tab.
  • Alt-drag the video from the Project tab to the Menu Editor window.
Adobe Encore DVD inserts the file name of the video in the Properties palette and displays the first frame in the Menu Editor window.

Do one or both of the following if you want the video background to play (rather than be a still image) when the menu is accessed. To display just the first frame of the video as a still image, leave these settings unchanged.
  • Type a time code value for Loop Point to designate the point at which the menu buttons should appear on the video. It will play without displaying the menu buttons (or other objects in the menu) until it reaches this point. If the video repeats, it will loop back to this location.
  • Type a value (or select a value from the pop-up menu) for Loop # to specify how many times the video should play if the user makes no selection from the menu. If you set the video to loop a specific number of times, you need to set the End Action for the menu as well.
