trouble with exporting an EDL

Hello.

I am new to this, i am a self taught Final Cut 4 user. I need to create an EDL for a very simple sequence. Unfortunately the list comes out with only 7 of the clips, when the sequence has 40 clips. I have pressed every button, but to no avail. Can anyone offer me any help?

Many Thanks,

tim

Do you have more than one video layer? The problem with most EDL formats is that they were created years ago for linear editors - and they can't describe more than a couple of video layers. What are you finishing on, Avid, Quantel, Jaleo?

Most of the time I will duplicate my sequence, and then make it as simple as possible for the EDL to describe. I will bring all clips down to 1 or 2 video levels, remove the audio (will be in the OMF anyway) and then export a CMX3600.

Alternatively, if you have a complicated sequence, you can export an EDL for each video layer by choosing "target layer only" and then adjusting your target patching for each layer EDL.

Of course the easiest way to do it for Avid is with the Automatic Duck plugin that maintains most effects, layers, levels, etc. There is also the XML format that will work with some other editors (like Quantel iQ), but confirm that your post house can read it first. This is a fairly new format that systems are just beginning to adopt.

Also, the AD AAF plugin can be downloaded from the Apple FCP website for free, but I have never used this format.

If you are still having problems, stuff your project and then email it to me.
