Okay, I'm baffled. I've shot test footage both in 24pn & 30p with me XL2. Everybody so far says should be no problem to capture footage to FCP HD. As far as the 24pn footage, as long as I put it to a 29.97 timeline. I'm told that it should be converted with no problem and play back fine. But I still get the unsmooth, jumpy look, even with medium speed pans, or passing cars. I've tried every different setting imagined just to see any differance. I even see the same problem with the capture window open while I'm trying to view what footage to capture. Footage looks fine thru the camera view finder with that smooth motion blur 24p produces. I edit to a G4 1.4 dual processor. What do my "User Preferences", "User Settings", and "Audio/Video Settings" supposed to be set to? Like I've said, I've tried every combination thinkable with no success of smooth footage. 
Looks like someone will need to tell me what every ioda of each setting should be set at, all the different settings under each tab in the Setting pulldowns, etc...
