Ok, I have a Panasonic AG-HPX300, and CS4. Im trying to get the files off the P2 cards to a MYPASSPORT external hard drive. I dont have a card reader so I connect via USB cable from my camera to my computer. I save it to the EHD and i close premiere and unplug my HPX from my computer then when i try to restart premiere and open the project it says "file format not supported" Can anyone help me. Im trying to transfer the files to the MYPASSPORT so i can clear off my P2 cards.

Are they AVC-Intra? Make sure you have the 4.2 update to Premiere Pro.

Be sure, though, that you're copying over the entire Contents folder intact and just individual files. Best to use P2 Viewer or similar software to offload cards.

Are you transferring the entire CONTENTS folder and maintaining the structure of the subfolders?

Also, are you shooting DVCPROHD or AVC-Intra? If its AVC-I, make sure you have the latest update of PPro CS4, which is 4.2.1. AVC-I was introduced in 4.2, and 4.2.1 fixed some issues.

If all that checks out, make sure that the presets for AVC-Intra are showing up in the New Sequence panel; CS4 has a nasty habit of reverting to trial status on some machines when updates are installed. If you've been bitten by that bug, you'll have to reinstall the software, I'm sorry to say....

Yeah i got the 4.2.1 version. What is the p2 VIEWER software? Im sure you already know this but i dont lose the files it only works when i have my camera plugged in. do i have to reformat the external hard drive to support the files or what.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate your help.

What i do is open I: folder where i can see thumbnails in the media browser i highlight each clip then drag it to the CLIP BIN. From there i go to SAVE AS and save it to my EHD. It saves as a Premiere project, and when i unplug the camera and try to open the project it says something to that something is offline and I cant open the clips

Then you didn't actually transfer any footage. The .pproj file doesn't contain any footage, only information as to where the footage is located -- in this case, on your P2 card.

Check out the CS4 white paper at the sticky on the top of the forum.
