trouble installing fcp studio

i installed fcp studio and everything went fine until i wanted to open one of the apps and it asked for the serial number. i entered the serial number and it denied it.

i have had illegal copies of most of these programs in the past and i've heard it may have problems because it's using the old "fake" serial numbers.

i've gone through and delete everything i could find with those apps i had.
are there any hard to find files i should look for before installing agian?

Be sure you are putting in the S/N's very carefully, case sensitive, etc. The only time I've seen this problem is when someone omitted a letter, or put it in lower case, or accidentally left a space, etc.

If you go to Apple's suppor site, search for "remove [application name]" for each app, and you should find docs there that list all the files and their locations that need to be removed.

I thought you only had to type in the serial number upon the initial installation start up disk??

You have to put in the S/N anytime you do a major upgrade, anything that is not an on-line software upgrade. 5.1 is considered a major upgrade, even though they only used a decimal number name for it. All major upgrades have required this. Although back with HD it was only nessisary to put in the S/N for your original copy, as that was about the only true upgrade disk. The rest of them are actually new installation disks with upgrade options on them.

Going from 5.0.4 to 5.1 is, for all practical purposes, a major upgrade, reguardless of the number scheme. This is due to all the new coding, major overhaul on Compressor, the Studio bundle being standard, etc. I mean, look at it, they send you whole new disks, it's a whole new code to handle both the G5 and Intel hardware. Just watch, the next major upgrade (I'm assuming at NAB) will be an Intel platform only upgrade. I betcha.

i reinstalled after deleting the old software and had no problems at all.

it also saved me another 20 gigs.
