Trouble getting audio on mpeg import

I'm trying to import an mpeg into FCP HD and am only getting the video, no audio. I've tried coverting the file into a quick time movie, a dv stream and an avi file, but nothin doin.

Where is this audio embedded, and how can I get it to come through?

I ran into the same problem a couple of times. What I found that works is to convert the mpg file into an "aiff" file either through quicktime or cleaner 6 (I'm not sure which one worked) then import both the original mpg and the newly converted aiff file into FCP.
