Trouble enabling Mercury playback CS5

Hi All,
Have just purchased a Toshiba Qosmio X505-808 with a core i7 extreme 920xm with a geforce 360m video card (windows 7 ultimate 64b, I have updated the latest drivers from nvidia.
I can not get cs5 to show the mercury engine enabled in the project settings.
I have not imported any files into the time line, does this matter?, ( also having issues with drivers for the p2 cards, not sure if I should be using the 32b or 64b windows version) not sure if there has to be some footage to work on before you can switch from mercury accelerated (software only) to the mercury engine gpu.
I have upgraded from cs4 to cs5 but in the nvidia control panel in manage 3d settings it only shows cs4.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards

Hi Huy Vu
Do you know if the hack willwork?, from what I have read it is one of the cards that should work ie it has cuda capability and 1gb ram

Hi Huy Vu,
Have been able to add my graphic card to the list of supported cards and it now appears to be working, still have the issue with my P2 cards not being recognised. using an adapter which worked on an earlier Toshiba Qosmio 32b Vista sytem have tried the 32b and 64 bit drivers but neither recognise the P2 card.

i picked up a geforce 9800gt for 100 bucks and it does the trick once you do the hack. might be your quickest/cheapest fix.

Just got the hack to work on a Lenovo W510. The card (FX880M) isn't supported, and adding it to the list didn't work either; turned out the driver needed to be updated before CS5 would recognize it. Lenovo doesn't offer that driver, but I found it on nVidia's site.

So make sure you're running the latest driver for your video card.

Barry, what do you mean by "work"? I just loaded CS5 onto a new W510 and the native files from my 7D play back smoothly from the timeline. Does that mean I have the latest drivers for the video card? I haven't tested with multiple streams but I have maintained smooth playback with a couple of filters (color, gamma and motion) applied.

Go to the playback engine setting (I forget what it's called) and see if it lets you use the Mercury Playback Engine, or if it's set to software-only. Mine was locked to software-only until I updated the video drivers and added the hacked line in the graphics card list.

Thanks! OMT: Could somebody please point me to an example of this "hack" ya'll are talking about? How/Where is it written? Where is this "graphics card list" and how do I edit it?

BTW: I just checked and mine is locked on software only as well. As I said, I am getting smooth playback of the native files and was pretty happy with CS5 until...well...you know...ignorance is bliss.

Sorted out my issues with the drivers, system is up and running unbelievably well, compared to CS4 on a Vista system, have not had a single crash so far, it is a joy to be able to playback in real time even with mixed footage ie P2 and avchd from my underwater camera.
The only remaining issue is with my P2 card pcmcia to express adapter in that i can not reformat my P2 card after transfer. Lucky I have two old Toshiba Tecra M2 that do this ok, but if any one has a solution to the reformat issue I would be most appreciative.
