Hi all. First, let me say that I use FCE 2 because that is what I can afford on my semi-pro. budget. Being married, I'm probably lucky I was able to get that. I have a 1.25Ghz Emac running Tiger and have boosted my RAM to a gig, the most it will support. The app is installed on the internal 80 Gig drive and the scratch disk is on my external 250 Gig firewire drive.
This is probably pretty lightweight for most of you power users but it has been more than adequate for me for the last few years as I only shoot mini DV. Other than the infamous power module problem that was covered under warranty, this system has done what i needed and done it pretty well.
A month to six weeks ago, I received a new Panasonic AG-DVX100B and was thrilled to say the least. I was excited to have a camera of this caliber. I recently shot my yearly corporate video and, yesterday, went ahead and attempted to capture the first footage.
I used the "Capture Now" option since it's a relatively simple project and everything seemed fine. Just over five minutes in, the image on the capture screen froze and didn't capture any further footage. Upon further attempts, it did the same thing at the same, exact location. Eventually, I cheated a bit and got past that point but it did the same thing minutes later. I even used a different camera (consumer grade) and it did the same thing. Among other things, I also used the internal drive as the scratch disk just to see if that would help but no luck. It's got to be the tape or the way the DVX recorded to the tape, don't you think?
It would take too long to tell all the things I tried to work around this but maybe someone could tell me what's wrong. Is it a timecode issue or is there a compatibility issue between the camera and the computer? Is the camera faulty or did i have something set incorectly when I shot the footage? Btw, I didn't use the 24fps modes as I'm pretty sure FCE does not support this. I shot using just the regular scene file or the fluo. for inside the hardware store to cope with the fluo. lighting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
