tripods

i know i gets brought up all the time but i did a search and couldn't find anything.

i got about $500 recently and am seriously thinking about buying a tripod. up until now i've been checking out my equipment from school, but for summer the film/video labs are out also. in addition to being able to shoot anything in the next 6 weeks, buying a tripod would let me pick out something better than the crappy ones at school. They;re not bad, bogen, pretty good fluid heads, but i could use a few extra features.

what the best tripod i can get for $300? what the best tripod I can get for $500? and i desperately want that ball joint piece so I can get level without spending 10 min each i I want to adjust hieght, is that something I can get in these price ranges?

THANK YOU AGAIN WONDERFULL DVXUSER PPL! :)

awesome, thanks man :) it lists basic info, but do you know where i might be able to read more about it?

please, if anyone else knows of any suggestions in the $300 and $500 range, I'd really appreciate it :)

i looked through bhphoto andalso found these kits:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=387808&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
($494.95)

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=309002&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
($463.95)

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=353162&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
($454.00)

each of these holds at least 13 pounds (as oppose to 8) and cost about the same. Am I missing why they aren't as good?

...does Rush have anything to say about this? :)

Bogen 3460 (Manfrotto 503) fluid pan and tilt head as included with most of the suggestions is definitely a good suggestion in the price range.

($494.95) suggested above has the best tripod (costs the most!), and is the only one of the suggested ones that has a proper professional-style halfbowl for fast easy levelling of the pan & tilt head, and a professional-style adjustable mid-level spreader.

Have not used this particular tripod, but the paper spec looks good.

My current tripod is a piece of . . . unsatisfactory hardware. I'm looking to upgrade, price is flexible. I'd like to keep it under $1k, preferably in the $500 range.

So, BOGEN 503755BK or BOGEN 351MVB2K?

Both cost about the same ($500) and support about the same payload. Both have the 503 head. One is 4 pounds lighter than the other.

351MVB2K

or

503755BK

Anyone have any additional opinions. Should I be looking at other products entirely?
