I'm looking for a tripod to fit my DVx100a. I've looked around online but there are so many, and they seem mostly the same...
Is there any great brand or type for around $150-$300
Is there something I should specifically be looking for, to ensure performance?
Does anyone know what's with the remote control tripods?

the best bet for that price is a 501 head with your choice of legs to what you can afford. The 501 is a great head, not as good as the 503 but for value priced it does the job, many people use the 501 setup.

Also Check out the Libec M20. It comes will a ball leveler, mid-level leg spreader, and spiked feet for under $200. I have been using one for my DVX100A and it works great for my on the go needs.
