Tripods: Replacing pan handle rosette

Some tripods have replaceable rosettes but many don't, especially older ones. Has anyone had success restoring a worn out rosette on a tripod? I'm wondering if it's as simple as using JB Weld to attach a new rosette over top of the old one, even if that means having to use a different pan handle.

Or maybe you know of a better approach, without sending the head back to the manufacturer for repair?

It's not so much a particular tripod that I own, but that I see so many otherwise useful tripods gathering dust or being offered on eBay for very little because of a stripped rosette. Seems like a waste.

If the tightening screw/knob works, you can probably make your own rosette by creating grooves. Difficult to know without seeing each and any example.

At the very least, maybe you can glue a handle on permanently (sacrificing any adjustment).

I'd machine off the rosettes on both parts with a mill and then put new Arri rosettes on with screws. It's not a solution for everyone and it may not work if there's no room for screws, but that's how I do it. I've also machined in new rosettes into the existing part, but that's way more work.

That's some serious wear (or abuse). I have a head that is almost 23 years old and the rosettes are still fine. But I agree, they should make them user replaceable on the heads. I can replace them if necessary on all of my handles.
