Tripod

Has anyone used these in place of a video tripod? I know it's 5/8 in thread, but I'm assuming you can put a 3/8 in it's place or whatever size it is to go inside a Tripod head. I've seen these cheaper other places, this was just an example.

Why would you ever want to do that?? a cheap tripod of the same price would be a thousand times better. There's not even a way to pan or tilt.. mine as well just stick your camera on a log.

However those would be quite useful for mounting other things on... I have a big flighgcase with all my stuff in it, and that if you could arrange a way of attaching the case to that tripod it would be quite a nice little table for various bits and bobs...

don't all tripods have the ability to take the head on and off? these tripods are for surveying, i'm certain you've seen them on job sites somewhere, unless you're in a rural area, and are very sturdy and durable. i wasn't insinuating putting a camera directly on top of the tripod, i was talking about using it as tripod base. i was guessing you could change the 5/8 thread to a standard one used for a bogen tripod head.

All pro tripods have removable head. The pro sticks are actually similar to the
surveyor sticks - only you can't get something that sturdy for under $100.
Looks to me like it is worth looking into. You will typically need a 3/8" male
thread. This would also be great for a crane.
