Tripod worries.....

Hmmm, Now that I have my HVX202 im looking at buying a tripod, ive looked around and seen some pretty hard core tripods for film and tv but they cost big bucks.

Dont get me wrong a good sturdy tripod with a fluid head is the ways to go. But I only want to spend upto $200 for my first ever video tripod. I'll be doing a lot of short films and stock footage shortly.

On my hunt for the tipod ive checked out ebay and other dealers on the web. I've been to videopro in brisbane but whats caught my eye is a Velbon CX-480.

http://www.teds.com.au/www/6/1001102/displayproduct/1001326_1001235_.html

it has a two way fluid panhead, quick release and can hold a max weight of 5kg, the Hvx weighs in at 3kg so that leaves 2kg for other attachments like matte box, support bars and so on.

Is anyone here or has anyone had any experiance with these tripods? Or should I save a little longer and go the full HOG?

Cheers :dankk2:

You have to be insanse to have the Attitude about putting a $6 thousand dollar cammera, on a 200 dollar tripod. If you make money off of your equipmment, SPEND some and do things right. You wont regret it after you see the Result of a REAL professional tripod.

You could always buy just a heavy duty tripod thru mcmaster carr and then build your own head, that's what I plan on doing. Or buy the tripod thru mcmaster carr and buy a fluid head thru someone else. Also I have that tripod you are looking at and it does not support the hvx200, it wobbles. And like SurJones said you won't regret the results you get from a professional tripod. I built a steady cam and already am convinced on the best rigs for shooting your video. If you don't invest in it.....Build It.

Quite often you get what you pay for.

If you think about it, in the end if you buy the inexpensive tripod then buy a better one down the road, you will have spent more money that if you would have just saved for the better one.

A good tripod will last you forever. Save your money and wait to buy the better one.

Mike -- if you only have a few hundred dollars available, my recommendation would be to look for a used tripod on eBay. There are some very solid '70s and '80s era tripods like the Miller F that will serve you much better than anything you could find in that price range new.

Sounds like the velbon isnt the tripod for me. thanks for the response guys. I'l keep an eye out on ebay for pro tripods. or ill buy a miller.

cheers again

Mike
