after reading the tripod thread above..(sticky)

it somehow started from manfrotto 503.. then all the way up to Sachtler dv 6..
i'm sure you get what you pay applies to every piece of equipment but maaan..
for student like myself, i don't have deep pocket for these things.

perhaps there should be STUDENT FILMMAKER FORUM where we can discuss some LOW budget but gets the job done options.

I ended up getting Manfrotto 501 HDV Pro (is this newer version??)
store also had Sachtler..

briefly tried both of them but I couldn't tell much difference but somehow Sachtler felt more smooth.

anyways.. I have DVX100b and for now I will stick with 501 and as I get better I guess my equipments should grow with my skill level.

as for the legs, I just attached to my photography tripod I already have which is Manfrotto 055MF4. seems to do the job

(living in Canada and not so big city doesn't really help with my options either.. I originally wanted 503 but didn't have it in stock and Cartoni reseller was located in Van city.. all the way out in the west and i'm out in the east)

so in conclusion, if any studnet like myself out there looking into getting tripod and pulling your hair out because of the price.. definitely check out Manfrotto. I tried it today and it seems like a really good entry level 'pro' head

it sure beats Giotto.. haha
