Tripod Suggestions for Crane

Hi all. I am looking into buying the 12 foot Kessler Crane, and I am looking for an affordable tripod legs and fluid head to go with it. The crane weighs nearly 30 pounds, and the tripod I have now (BOGEN 3221WN-501) can't nearly support it. I'm just looking for suggestions...I am hoping to not go over $600 for the tripod legs and head..

I bought an old Davis & Sanford Mark II . . . (actually I ended up with two). They will support anything you want to put on 'em, up to a volkswagen. See if you can find one on eBay -- if not I could probably be talked out of one of mine.

Anybody Else,
I'm about to buy a Kessler Crane and am so confused about
a Tripod & Fluid head, (model number wise) I could almost hurl!

Everyone just says Bogen, but there are 3,008,454,234,232.782 listings
on B&H & Ebay. I can't get the image of the DVX hitting the floor, outta my head,
because I may buy the wrong Bogen & Fluid Head....

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

I am just wondering if the company that makes the Kessler crane has any reccommendations on what you should use best for their product.

I had the same dilemna you are facing when I was about to get a crane.
I have the 8' Kessler crane (which is great by the way).
I had a Davis & Sanford ProVista II before getting the crane, and I was uncertain if it would work out. This tripod is very sturdy and heavy duty, but it is seriously lacking in quality control. The spreader is built from cheap plastic and broke right after I got the tripod. Also, the head has a weird problem where it wiggles side to side....no good with a camera on it. To top it off, the fluid head has a couple of 'jerks' in it, making it impossible to get a long, smooth pan. So I wouldn't recommend the ProVista.

I just got a Bogen set up from ebay for $125, and it's a dream: 3050 sticks W/ 3063 head. If you can find these model numbers, I guarantee you'll be happy with it. It is BURLY and more than enough to handle the Kessler. Weighs a lot though.

The guy at Kessler didn't really have any specific recommendations. He said he used to recommend the Davis & Sanford (it's nice and cheap) but doesn't anymore because of quality issues.

Good luck.
