Anyone have any affordable tripod recommendations for a GL2? I've looked around and seen a few things that struck my eye but I just wanted some more opinions.
Since this is going to be used primarily on a dolly preferrably under 200. I'm not looking for something with a super fluid head or a quick release system, just kind of a work horse tripod.
I have to tell you, I did not have a good experience with the D&S tripod. It came loose during a shoot and I couldn't figure out how to fix it (after hours) without tightening down the pan adjustment. I upgraded to a bogen 516, which is out of your price range, but if the 503 is anything like it, I'd recommend going that direction.
However, if you are hell bent on the D&S pro vista, I will sell you mine - used once!
I use to have a really cheap Libec 22. It has fluid head movement. 65mm ball for quick levelling. quick relase plate .integreated spikes. Light weight and hold up to 4kg (8.8pounds).
I'm the proud owner of a brand new DVX100BE and looking for a tripod now. I've heard people yelling "501" and "503", but since these posts are quite old I was wondering what I should get for about 700-800 euros (900 dollars?). Hope you guys can advise me on this.
Davy,
Try a bogen/manfrotto combo with a 516 or 519 head. the 516 head is going to give you the proper fluidness when comparing it to the 501 or 03. Personally i would not get a 501 or 503 if you have the money to spend on a good tripod.
And while we're reviving this old thread...
I'm in the same boat as uhhh, the other fella. Small small budget, need a simple tripod that doesn't take a genius to level out. Won't be used for overly serious applications, just need something I can set up quick without having to muck around with leg & head adjustments for perfect level.
Budget - $250 tops
Thanks.
If your budget is really limited, prowl a popular Internet auction site and buy a used one at half-price. Tripods seem to be an item in which you get what you pay for. The cheap units are frustrating to use.
I bought a "gently used" Miller DS10. Fantastic tripod and I got a great deal.
