Tripod Question

I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between tripods with a Head Mount Thread size of 3/8" and those with 3/8-16".

I'm looking at getting a Cullmann Titan (mainly b/c of its weight bearing capabilities) for a Glidecam 200 Crane & Vista Head.

The Glidecam 200 requires a 3/8" mount and I can't find any info on this topic anywhere.

Is there a difference between the 3/8" and 3/8-16" theads? If so can anyone suggest a set of tripod legs with a 3/8" thread mount under $400 that will support 100 lbs or more?

If I'm not mistaken, the 3/8'' and 3/8''-16 are one in the same, only difference being that the 16 refers to the pitch of the threads, and the 3/8'' refers to the diameter? Some choose not to add the thread pitch- Someone correct me if I'm way off base.
