Tripod Question

Alright, I'm going to purchase my tripod this weekend, and from what I can tell the prefered brand is Bogen. Is this indeed the case? Anyway, right now I'm looking at the Bogen 475 legs and the 3039 head. Here's the link. Is this good, or should I be looking at something else? All suggestions are welcome, I want to make sure I do this right.

Re: Tripod Question

no...............thats a photo tripod. You will break your camera if you put it on that thing :)

Re: Tripod Question

Seriously? Well, I feel dumb, I figured since it's max weight was 22 something lbs, it was fine for the DVX. :( Well, any suggestions then?

Re: Tripod Question

you need a fluid head.. in that price range you should look at the 501 head.. its not a true fluid but it is very close, and tons of people use it. If you can afford it, step to the 503, its what I use and love it.

Re: Tripod Question

I've seen people discussing those, what will I be missing out if I get the 501 over the 503?

Re: Tripod Question

503 is more fluid, but it also has extendable handle and you can swap handle sides.. The 503 also has a return spring in the head so it doesnt dip forward if you take your hands off.

Re: Tripod Question

definitely the 503 or the 516(which replaced the 3066)...for the legs, minimum would be the 3046.  personally, i like how the center gear of the 3046 goes smoothy up and down w/ the turn of the handle. i own the 3046 and 3066 head and they work great w/ my cobracrane.
