So i posted a thread about the best tripod to get for around $1000. The responses I got were right on. I am lucky to have a shop near by with the recommended products on display so I was able to go check out the goods.
The recommendation was to get the Bogen/Manfrotto 515MVB Lightweight Legs w/the 516 Pro Fluid head ($993 on BH Photo & no tax when shipping to California)
I arrived at the store, which was having a huge sale, and began to scope out the "pods". This part sucked because they only had the 501 and 503 heads with some pretty basic legs or they had the 542ART Carbon Fiber Legs and in the display case was the 519 head. When browsing online I didn't even think about the 519 head because I was told the 516 was the head which drew the line between pretty fluid and not so fluid. Of course I had to check out the 519 head to see just what made it so much more expensive over the 516 head. I was sold on the 519 head almost immediately after mounting it to the tripod legs. Unfortunately the head was selling for $1100 at that store. (no tripod buying for me that day)
Ok. Enough of the story. Here are my questions.
There are a few different tripods that I am looking at on BH Photo.
I want to get the 519 head. The amount of settings it has and its fluidness has me sold unless someone can give me a good reason not to get the 519 head.
Does anyone know if certain legs are really that much better then others for the price difference of $100?
Which legs are better and why or does it not matter?
- 3190/3193 (most expensive) Combo w/head price $1290
- 525MVB (middle price) Combo w/head price $1282
- 3181/3182 (cheapest) Combo w/head price $1106
Thank you to whomever takes the time to read this thread and post an answer for me. Hope some of this info helped out others with similar questions.
