Tripod Issue

I purchased a tripod over the weekend and when I tried to attach it to my HVX, I realized that the screw was too big to fit (it's a 3/8 and the hole is a 1/4)...is there some kind of step down plate I can buy or some kind of attachment that Panasonic makes to allow for larger screws?
