tripod issue

I recently came back from a shoot, and discovered all my shots were not 100% levelled horizontally. I did check the air bubble when shooting, but my guess is the head became un-leveled when I rotaded the head when getting ready to frame the shot. Having looked at the bubble when rotating the head 360 degrees, I see the bubble drifting off. Is this sometithing that one can fix without sending it off for repair?
I really don´t have time/money for that for the moment....

Re: tripod issue

Is this a circular bubble level? It sounds like it isn't. In that case you'll need to rotate the head when you set it up to confirm that it stays level throughout. You can be level in one direction have the 3rd leg lower. (Probably not a bad idea even with a circular level although it should be less necessary) You can purchase a circular bubble level or a T-level which has 2 bubble leves at 90 degrees.

Hi there,
if it is a circular bubble you will still have to be careful when setting it up.
My tripod has one but it is dificult to accurately set up due to the red ring being printed on the outside, thus introducing fairly hefty paralax problems.

I have to tilt the platform fully forward so that i can view the bubble from directly above to get it right.

I have an old theodolite and all of the level markings are scored on the inside to reduce this problem.

Re: tripod issue

Is this a circular bubble level. From past experiences, I do think I have been able to accurately be 100% leveled all the way around. I guess one can make the case that just from visually inspecting where the bubble is, one can be slightly off. And that will get worse as one turns the fluid head around...I am confused still. I thought the bubble would indicate if the head is leveled in all directions. I tend to set the tripod, then pan and zoom to the excact place where I want to frame the shot..

Re: tripod issue

When you can, reference the horizon or a combination of right angles in your frame. This can help.
