I have a Bogen 503 fluid head. My camera rig consists of the Canon XL2, Redrock micro35 lens adapter, bigger Canon battery, Tokina 80-200mm lens and the Formatt matte box. All this weighs 17 pounds. Plus I need to put it all on a 12 foot crane which weighs God knows what. The Bogen 503 head is rated for only 13 pounds. However, I bought it in the first place because the guys at Promax, who sold me the crane, said they put their cranes and xl1's on 503 heads all the time.
My 503 head has already lost the ability to adjust the pan/tilt tension due to the excessive weight. And I don't know if they'll replace or repair it.
So I guess my question is: does anyone know which fluid head has the strength to cope with the heavy weight of everything I mentioned and not wear out and still be affordable?
