Tripod/head recommendations

Hello!

Alright, so I need a tripod and a fluid head. Since my knowledge in these things is horribly lacking, I thought why not just ask the guys in this forum.

I've been looking for these options:
Manfrotto 503HDV/525 kit,
Libec LS38
Well, that's it. Ha!

But those should at least tell something about the price range that I've settled with.
So, is one of these a good buy, or could I do better? Sturdiness and smoothness is what I'm after.

Respectfully yours, your hopelessly naive pal, Bronson

Thanks.
Alright, so not only is the Libec better of the two, it's also an excellent choice generally within that price range?
Well, if I hear no other alternatives, I might just buy that. Yeah, that's how impulsive I am. :2vrolijk_08:

Ehhh, I've heard that the LS38 heads can be iffy. However, I haven't used the others (with the exception of the 503) so I can't really give you a fair, unbiased opinion.

I like the 503, and at that price you can't really complain. I used it in college many times and it was a great head. It was nice and fluid, but isn't the most durable head out there.

Good luck with your purchase.

After looking for information on all of the suggested tripods/head, I found a very good deal on Miller DS-10 with carbon legs.
How does this one hold up against the previously mentioned? Pros and cons?

Could they be what I'm looking for: The best thing I can find for a reasonable price (1100 or preferably less)

I think its important to match your camera weight to your tripod needs... what camera you using?

With that budget you have a lot of options... If you do go bogen (503hdv) make sure you get the extra handle... best $20 I have ever spent...

I picked up this kit used, with the 501hdv head and have been very happy... If you need the extra weight support the 503hdv is worth the extra $$. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...525PKIT_BO525MVB503K_Video_Tripod_System.html

You will probably want something that has adjustable counter balance than, that is around a 10lb setup?
