hey guys
can anybody tell me if i buy a kessler crane KC-12/8 Kits, can i use other kind of tripod with the crane? because the price of K-Pod + Hercules 2.0 it's almost 1.000$, plus the 729,95$for the crane. i was looking for something good but a little less expensive...because i also have to get the external monitor and the remote head. the crane is to use with canon 7D.

Cagu,

You need a heavy tripod for crane use, the weight adds up quickly. Though not cheap, the K-Pod with Hercules is a bargain for what you need to do. It is the real deal for a crane, excellent support.

Varizoom has a new HD tripod, the VZ-TC100A for a street price of around $465, but by the time you put a head on it, you might as well buy the K-Pod.

The reality check is that if you want a Kessler, or similar quality crane, with control station, you are going to be in it around $2500.

agree about the Kessler support. i have the Pocket Dolly and the Hercules head with Miller Solo VJ legs and it does a great job but if i was going to mount a real jib i wouldnt trust it. i also think the Kessler head and legs is a steal of a price for how sturdy and well built it is.

I have an 8/12 foot Kessler crane and it is a great tool. I use a Manfrotto 528 XB with and older 519 head I found on ebay as well as their older model swivel head. Both work fine and since I use my PT20 motorized head most of the time it sits on the swivel. I also have a matching Manfrotto wheel set for the tripod.
You need a serious tripod for a jib, due to weight and need for rock solid stability. There is no "cheap" answer. If I were to do it again I would buy Eric Kessler's Hercules system because it is made for the jib and has locking features you won't find on others heads and that make it much safer to work with.
