Tripod Cross Reference

Anyone have a Bogen - Manfrotto model number cross reference? All I can find are cross-refs for the quick release plates... :(

If not...how about just a ref for the 505/510/516 heads & 525 legs?

Is the 516/525 overkill? I've no chance to actually see/use any of these...just mail order, so... Anything $1000 or less is what I'm looking for, if anyone has better recommendations.

516 goes with 515 legs.
525 uses 75mm, 515 100mm
besides that they are the same legs.
I thinki 503+525VB is more than what most people need.

Thanks.  Still need to figure out which 3xxx number goes with what, though. Wish they'd just standarize the dang things...

I have even heard of people getting away with a 501 head, although I have also heard the 503 is a much better head.

Since I know nothing about tripods and heads, I'm relying on you guys to steer me straight.

So, the 503 rather than the 505?

If you would like to spend a bit more money, I hear the Vinten Pro6DC is a better tripod than the Bogen, I think its around 300 more dollars. The Bogen 525 legs with 503 head however seems to be plenty for most people though. You won't be dissapointed.
