It's been discussed to death. Buy the Libec from the second link you posted. It's the best you're going to get in the price range. Do a search, you'll see what I mean.

i think every answer on dvxuser begins with "well, it depends on what you're using it for..."
i have, use (with my hvx), and love:

is it perfect/pro? not really. does it get the job done? yes. is it "cost effective" (read: cheap)? definitely.

ha, i just noticed that was the first one you listed (but mine included the dolly). so really, it depends on your pricerange and how "fluid-like" you need. obviously there are better ones out there and that libec looks nice if you can drop the extra cash.

i use this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ford_PROVISTA7518B_Pro_Vista_Tripod_with.html

got the dolly with it. Def works for what i need...it can support 18lbs. i guess if u have the extra $$ u can get better but this is a very decent tripod. Used with my DVX...others here have used it with there HVX and adapter combo.

edit..my bad..lol..i didnt look on ur links. ah well ..so yeh thats what i;ve been using since december and its been good to me since.

i don't want to start my own topic so sorry to butt in on yours.

Would the 1st tripod suffice for an HMC with a 35mm adapter and some rails?

users here have used it with the HVX ..adapter and rails combo. to my understanding the hvx is heavier than the hmc...so i dont see why not. I;ve seen such a rig with mattebox, and a marshal monitor also. (wish i cud remember where on the site has the pic). It says it can hold 18lbs...but hey i;ve not tried it. I only hav my dvx on it.

Morox, I personally suggest that you do not to get the Davis and Sanford tripod in your link. Its a regular pile of junk.

I know a guy that bought one for his EX1. From a left to right or straight up to down pan, he couldnt get an even speed across either and a diagonal pan was impossible. Camera moved like it was going down stairs. The libec can, and did for me many times.

THAT is funny as Hell.
but I'll bet the owner didn't think so!
Morox, when all else fails, check out the search function---it is your friend.

my vote also goes for the libec. Even tough it has less features than the Manfrottos that cost about the same, it is a way better tripod in my opinion.... I bought one for the film club of Santa Monica College and nobody had troubles with it so far....
