Tripod Ball Head Lubrication question.

I have a Miller 30 fluid head with a 100mm ball head. When I try to level the ball head, by loosening it and moving it, I run into a good bit of "Sticktion" which makes getting the bubble level centered. Is there any way to lubricate the ball head and solve this? Would just spraying in some WD 40 do the trick or would there be any issues with that?

WD40 is really a penetrating solvent more than a lubricant. In fact, it will tend to wash the other lubricants away. Since WD40 is a light distillate, it will tend to evaporate quickly which is good if you need that. The one place where WD40 shines, though not as bright as some others like Kroil, is as a penetrating agent for loosening things up. Here is my list of favorite sprays and used to use all of these when I owned a machine shop.

spray penetrant = Kroil
spray lube = LDS-2
spray grease = LDS-3
spray silicon lube = Locktite
other spray lube = Boeshield (designed by Boeing)
