Tripod advice

I have read the posts about tripods and didn't get enough info I guess. So if you guys think this could go somewhere else let me know.

What is the difference between the 501 and 503 head? How much weight it will hold?

What do you think of this package? What are the "Wilderness legs?"

I don't see much of a difference in these tripods but the prices vary a lot so it gets confusing. But I think all of them have the 501 head. A couple come with a bag which I would want. But what looks best on this page?

I have the wilderness legs w/ the 503 head. It's a good starting tripod. Not sure how much weight it holds, but I've heard that there is a big difference between the smoothness of a 501 and a 503. The Wilderness legs don't seem to be the sturdyest things I've ever seen, but they're not the most expensive either. It works for me for now. It matters what you're using it for. Also, your links aren't working.

From what I understand the 503 has fluid pan AND tilt, wheras the 501 is Fluid pan, and Friction tilt. both hold about the same weight, and are about the same size, 503 is a little heavier obviously. I own and endorse the 503 for the money. I dream at night of a Miller, Vinten, Sachtler, or Cartoni under the tree. But dont let the tripod rule your world. "when you have a new hammer, everything starts looking like a nail" Go handheld sometimes too, it's dangerous and exciting.
