Howdie,
I'm shooting with Panasonic GH2 "video-dSLR" or EVIL to use the right term. It produces AVCHD video files with *.mts extension. (When copying these files from SDHC card onto my hard drive using Phil Seastrand's free GH1 File Importer utility, file extension is changed into *.m2ts for some reason.)
When I start to view the clips, I sometimes would like to trim unnecessary parts of long clips PERMANENTLY. This saves me time next time, when I try to find useful material for editing. Also some disk space is saved for other usage.
Do you have good software recommendations that would allow EASY, FAST and ROBUST trimming of source clips with minimum effect on video quality of original clips? Ie. the trimming process should be as lossless as possible!!
By searching the web you can find some little tools for this task, but many of them seem a bit "weak" performers...
I'm currently trying to learn to use CyberLink PowerDirector 9 for video editing. It can be used for trimming of source clips also, but I haven't found yet, how to be sure, that no quality loss happens, when rendering the trimmed output. It shows some basic info about video clips, but that is not very detailed. I would like to be sure that framerate, bitrate, progressive/interlaced, sample rate, video codec, audio coded etc. is kept the same during rendering, if that is needed after trimming.
The software can be commercial, as long as the price tag is suitable for hobbyist home user.
Thanks for your help and time!
