I think George sometimes gets bashed to much. So now I think its time to write some nice stuff whats he done in the world of Movies.

Created the most groundbreaking Scifi/Fantasy of all time (SW Ep IV).

Created one of the best advanture movies of all time (Raiders)

Pushed the special effects to it limits.

Created THX standard

And last pushed the 24P Video revolution.

He and James Cameron are the reason most of us are able to do what we do. They pushed the technology more than anyone else.

But Cameron is cooler. He has that whole Cousteau Filmmaker/Adventurer/Explorer angle that I find appealing.

Thank you George for:

THX 1138
American Grafitti
Star Wars
Industrial Light and Magic
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

Thank you for pushing digital filmmkaing technology

Indiana Jones ? Eh .....

Thank you Steven and Lawrence (and George for helping out).

Now go make something of some real substance.

I admire Lucas a great deal.

At his best he is a great and visionary filmmaker. At his worst he is mediocre filmmaker that pushes technology of film.

either way, he is doing some pretty amazing, even if he can't write dialogue that well.

Kudos Mr. Lucas,

Shine on you crazy diamond.

LOL! He's a hack.
I should be such a hack...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

That statement seems to rest solely on the fact that he is perceived to have ruined a franchise that he himself created. Personally, I didn't think it was that great to begin with. A nice popcorn experience, but I have enjoyed a lot of movies more...

Just picked up the new DVDs...

No more Greedo shooting first horseshi* will be shown in the ol' Callaghan household. No sir...

This original (un-bastardized) trilogy looks poo pooing beautiful as ever...

and the strangest part?

my son (who has only known the mess that is the altered, botched remastered special editions from 97' & 04') has been all over the un-doctored 77' 80' & 83' versions in all their respective retro glory...he can't get enough in fact. Lesson learned...LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE NEXT TIME!

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back ,,,

Not that great ?
We've been through this before, John. It is kind of a generational thing, I think. In no way am I saying it's a bad movie. I enjoyed it. I just didn't think it was great. As I've said in the past, it's always felt a bit like a kid's movie. I was 23 when it came out and it just didn't touch me the same way it would have if it had come out when I was 7-15. Certain movies have more impact on us during our formative years than they might otherwise have had. To me, this is the case with Star Wars. The movie was a marketing machine, aiming all kinds of ancillary products at the youth of America...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Star Wars comes in at number 9 on my all-time SciFi list so I obviously liked it...just not as much as others.

So are you saying it's time to plunk down some more money on Star Wars?

I just recorded all the star wars on my HD tv. I compared the originals to the DVD and the picture is better..... only problem is they are stuck on the TVS HDD, cant record to DVD (even though I have the technology) without compressing them back down to DVD seems an HD burner is in order - but I am staying clear of where to go for that right now :( A new hope was I guess a big moment in my childhood, so good memories there thanks George.

you can thank him for digital non-linear editing too. his prototype, then known as EditDroid, eventually evolved into Avid Media Composer.

Lost Boys syndrome. Lost Boys is an okay film, when I was a kid, it was the greatest vampire film ever! (Until Fright Night that is). I was never into Star Wars because it simply wasn't enough action. I loved pirate movies for the great overblown sword fights and a sword fight with "laser swords" (light sabres) that had to be awesome. It wasn't. Not for me. But I loved the concept. I somewhat enjoy the new Episodes. Darth Maul was cold and to finally get to see Yoda unleash was worth the price of admission. Am I a fan of the series? It's a part of my past. A fun piece of nostalgia. I'm more of an Indy fan and even though I'm not huge on Harrison Ford.

As for ruining the franchise, I don't see Lucas or his distributors complaining. I believe these films have a way of making their profit before they even hit the theater (Lucas make tons of cash from his merchandising). Overall it was a fun story. A space fantasy. Problem for me: not so into fantasy. But I do like swords and martial arts and Yoda, Jedi mind tricks and super powers. I actually have an idea for a Star Wars fan film where I play a disgraced Jedi trying to bring law and order to a lawless town. It would stay within the "space western" framework that Lucas has set forth.
