Hi all,
I need to travel superlight for a specific job and my 536 legs and 504 head are way too big. I just bought a Manfrotto Befree 'fluid head' to see if that works for me and if you put the word 'fluid' in inverted commas then I would say yes it does. It's tiny but it takes a standard Manfrotto plate and it gives a fair amount of smooth movement. Certainly enough for what I need. At the moment I have it mounted on 190CXPRO4 legs and it's a fairly stable combination with a GH4, Tascam DR70-D and Atomos Samurai Blade. It won't take much to shake it though (I was expecting that to be the case) and I don't think I would take it out in any wind.
So, my question is whether I should spring for the Befree legs as well. Will they be more stable? Does anyone have any comparative experience? Or Does anyone have an alternative suggestion for suitable legs. Main criteria are size, some degree of smooth motion and a reasonable level of stability. Ease of setup, weight, material, appearance, brand kudos are all less important. Price-wise I wouldn't want to spend much more than £150 given that this is probably a one-off requirement.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
