Trashed Preferences

Ok,

So I just opened up FCP and looked under my favorite effects and sequence settings and all my preferences are gone. I know this happens when you trash the preferences in FCP so I asked the last user if they trashed the prefs and they said no. Is there any way to lose these settings without trashing the prefs?


This is maddening since I spent hours creating looks in my effects and favoriting them. I just want to get to the bottom of this. Does anyone have answers?

Are you logged in as the same user?

This has happened to me after a specific crash... not ALL crashes.

yeah, there are no users, or one if you want to think of it that way.

If there's only one user on the computer that's it unfortunately. Perhaps the other person changed things inadvertently.

so there is no way this could have happened without trashing the preferences? maybe moving scratch disks around?

Could have been a crash. That happened to me in Maya the other day. Catastrophic crash. Somehow my preferences went with it. All my custom menus, settings, gone.

Took a while to rebuild. But rebuild I did. (And I backed up the preferences folder.)
