Trapcode

Hey everyone,

I was looking into buying trapcode for AE CS3, I was wondering if it was worth the $400.00 investment to get the whole academic version of the package, or could I get by with the reality pack?

I am semi new to the full power of after effects, but I have been using www.videocopilot.net a lot (Thanks Andrew), and want to get more involved in the understanding of the program.

I really don't have the money to buy it, I will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to make it a go. Thoughts, suggestions.

PS Most importantly to me is particular.

Thanks!

I'm also contemplating this purchase. Does anyone have examples of things you can do with particular that you can't do with the built in plug-ins? Is it a matter of being able to do things faster and easier, or does it actually allow you to do totally new things?

They are pretty great plugs.

the starglow plug when used subtly can add a tremendous amount of value to shots and Graphic.

The particle gen is awesome and flexible as-well.

I have not played with them all but those two are worth 200 bucks each easily.

You can download the demo from the trapcode website.

The demo is full functioning, but just leaves a water mark.

Start playing with it and get used to it. If you get real good at it, and you think it would help you, Then you should get it.

Particular is a very useful plug in, especially once you get past using just for particles. There are some cool things like crowd duplication, amongst other things, that can be created quite easily and flexibly.

We have the 3S pack, Particular and Form. Probably will get Horizon too since it seems very useful. Just don't overuse them.

Thanks for the help, does anyone have anything they can post that might be something that would be a selling factor?

I would try out the demo for sure 1st before you buy. I think Trapcode is awesome and own it, but the new After Effects can do a lot of stuff now. That being said I still use Trapcode for certain things, but it really depends on what you want to do.

There are other things that I would use the money on before trapcode depending on what I wanted to do. But you wont go wrong with Trapcode as well. It is very powerful and used a lot on many, many films, music videos and projects. (It's just a tool, but a very powerful one to have in your arsenal.)

Trapcode, like the company?

The company has some amazing plugins, Particular is fantastic for particle generation.

It is something really worth looking into. It can up your ante in AE. Fantastic plugin.

PS. http://www.trapcode.com/gallery.html

They have a bunch of stuff that was done with Trapcode plugins.

if you can't afford it, don't put pressure on yourself to buy 'em, while they are awesome plug-ins, and I own a few of them myself, and YES they do save time and give cool effect,

a lot of their functionality can be achieved in AE, (with a bit more work)

Download the demos, learn it, use it and have fun :)

If you need to use it commercially (in that case your gettin paid), then just buy it at that stage.

The demo seems to be very powerful, and it seems to render better than the built in generators. I think it may be a go for me. Thanks All.

If you see particles: particular was used:

He also used Knoll Lens Flare and Trapcode's Star Glow to bring on the logo and other elements. By using 3D particles inside of After Effects, hours of motion and compositing time were saved.."
