Transparent text

Hello clever people,

I tired of my text looking cheap in my little projects, and have been fiddling around to improve things. However, try as I might I can't imitate this look I like in Phil Bloom's short...

Using a height map I can get my footage appearing through the text, however I've only been able to do this with the rest of the frame totally black.

Any thoughts?

His text isn't transparent. He fills it in with the sky, which isn't in that part of the frame.

To do what he did there, you'd use white text on a transparent background, put a Luminance Mask on it, make the track's composite mode "Multiply(Mask)", then put the background you desire in the track underneath it, and make that track a child track to the track with the text on it.

Then you'd put whatever you want in the track underneath that.

If you then want to move the text, you'd use Parent Track Motion on the far left of the Parent/Child track controls.

Thanks David, worked a charm.

I've spent some time using Vegas, but feel like I've barely tapped its possibilities.
