Transparent Background

Thanks to the advice I received on this forum, I recently purchased After Effects and have been going through tutorials on video copilot. This program is intense.
I have one question: I'm trying to create a small spinning cube (a la 24 hour news programs that have their logos spin at the bottom right corner of the screen) and a moving marquis at the bottom of the screen. Is there any way to export these two items with a transparent background for import into a regular NLE? AVI doesn't hold transparency.
Thanks,
Joel

Sure, when you render, you need to pick a format that supports alpha channels, and you need to tell AE to render with alpha. In the render queue under "Output Module," you'll see the "Video Ouput" section. There, under "Channels," RGB will be selected. Change this to RGB+Alpha and you're in business. Some formats that support alpha are TIFF and TGA sequences, and the Quicktime Animation codec.

Ok I have no idea where the render queue "Output Module," or "Video Ouput" sections are. Can anyone help me?

correction. I have found the Render queue but still have no idea how to get objects in there

Render queue

Render queue

Make sure you have the comp selected that you are wanting to render. Under Composition click on Add to Render Queue or Cntrl + Shift +/ and your Render Queue window will open up with Composition added to it. From there you can choose your Render settings. Play around with it.
