transparent background in AE

im not too hot on AE but .... i want to import a title from AE into FCP with the background transparent.. ive never really had to do it before but is it just the 'toggle transparency grid' button under the viewing window or is that simply just for viewing it in AE?

the "+" indicates an alpha channel, which is is the transparency information you are wanting.

Right. When you go to render (and go through the render queue, NOT File > Export), make sure you have "RGB+Alpha" selected. The grid toggle is only for viewing in AE.
