Took a road trip down to Beaulieu for a car show way back when. (At the museum: http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/motormuseum/introduction.cfm ) It's down near Southampton.

So picture a Yank asking directions to a French-named town in England, doing his best to pronounce it as he thinks it should be pronounced. (It's taken him nearly 40 years to Richelieu right...)

No one had a clue what I was talking about...until I wrote it down.

"Oh, you mean "bewley." Giggle giggle giggle.

Sheesh.

Maybe if my name was Lester Fanshaw, I'd have done better...
