Transitions

What would be a good transition for something that has already happend it the story but not shown then fade to the present.

For example

5 people are ready to play blackjack at a table,
The dealer says : Let's begin
and the dealer shovels the game cards and deals them.

A new scene opens..
Dealer: Now that you all had a practice round let the real games begin.

I not showing the practice round but it has happend, so what kind of transition would be best to put inbetween.

Another scene...

The cards have been already played out, the are face up on the table. We see that game is over cause the cards have been dealt.

INT. BLACKJACK TABLE - LATER
Another hand has been played, all cards lie face up .... etc.

What kind of transition could I use?

any suggestions.

Re: Transitions

Yes, thats what I have right now, dissolves.. but they seems so fast, that you can barely tell it's a dissolve.
Can I make them longer?

Re: Transitions

You can make more of an overlap between the clips. But with a dissolve, you're a bit limited because you only have so much clip length to work with.

Re: Transitions

I like the MAD MAX Fade. Fade slowly to Black and back in. Not really a FADE OUT and not really a DISSOLVE. Kind of both?

Re: Transitions

Well, that you can customize to your heart's content, because you can leave as much space between the clips as you like, and you can control the fade length indepdendent of the length of the other clip.

Re: Transitions

Thats just leaving a big gap between the clips right. Don't have to add anything from the transitions.

Re: Transitions

You can also add a color shift to this, or add a low-opacity white solid color fading in/out over top of the crossfade. Works really sweet for creating time changes or sense of changing space.
