transitions on timeline

i played with the demo. i am a speedrazor/Blade user and that is the ultimate editing tool when it comes to timeline control. still it lacks other stuff and we are looking at Premiere hard now for our 2 editing stations because they will be the first to work with the new Matrox Axio series.......

here´s the question: when i drag a transition onto a clip it only appears on the clip as a little blue line. it does not show between the clips as a separate item. it always seems a bit dodgy to me to be sure it really has the exact length as i want it that way. i often have the transition to start/end a frame or two too early/late. is it me being too used to another software or is there a way to have these transitions occupying a videolayer on its own (and i do not mean a transitionlayer but a transition in a videolayer where sometime later in the timeline there can also be videofiles).

like:
v1--------
trans v3---------
v2-------- trans
v4-------------------

Re: transitions on timeline

Are you using Premiere Pro? In PPro you should display the Effect Controls view so you can see the details of the transition. In that view you will be able to fine tune the length, start, end, etc. of the transition.

Also, you might zoom into your timeline where you are placing your transition.

Re: transitions on timeline

i think the problem your having is the default setting for the transition is set way to short check that it should be set for about 1 or 2 secs as for transitions going on a track of there own you can only put a transition between 2 clips either on a single track or track 1 and 2..and like hans said you can fine tune the position in the effects contol window...

Re: transitions on timeline

also you can zoom into the timeline, and set the start and end point of the transition just by dragging the edges of it further in or out . however clicking on it, and adjusting it in the effects control dialog box is much easier and faster than zoomin in and out and all that razzmatazz type o jazz ..bee bop do bop du baadada diiiiiiiiiing! yeeeoooow!

Re: transitions on timeline

..i just completely repeated what Hans said. :-/ :P .. well minus the scat session. i need to lay low on the postig today i think.. im to post happy.. i see something .. and WHAM! i whip out out post...
Post first ...ask questions later. thats the way of the day. so i need to take some deep breaths, and run my fingers under some cold water . turn off the juice and stop drop and roll.. cause this posting train needs to put on the brakes before it spins wrecklessly out of control into oblivion..

Yeah, but it was well worth just for that scat session. Dang, I busted out laughing once I put 2 and 2 together :D
