Transitions between clips when there are multiples tracks / layers...

Hi, I have been making a lengthy interview piece for a nonprofit organization and run into a problem that I think is causing me to waste a lot of time...

I am transitioning many times between clips...

The first part (transition out) is a three-layered clip. There is one piece of video footage overlayed over another, and then above them is a LiveType title project.

This clip transitions into a Livetype project only (with animated background in livetype).

The project will then transition back to a new video clip, then back to a new livetype title project, several times.

In order for the transition to work, and not just for the two livetype projects to transition between each other and simply have the video files cut to black - I HAVE TO EXPORT EACH SECTION AS ITS OWN FULL .MOV FILE and then bring it back in as one layer and create the transitions.

This export time is enormous over the whole project. Do I need to be doing this?

I am thinking there must be a simple solution...

(by the way, my transition is a keyframed video filter, but I have the same problem with actual Final Cut transitions).

Thanks...

Heh, still doing it the same way because I haven't found a solution. If anyone does have the secret, much appreciated (if there is one). Losing hours and hours here... :) Cheers!

Hard to say without looking at your sequence. Maybe you could load a couple of screen caps.

Have you thought about using motion round tripping rather than LT?

I think maybe you're giving me credit for being a bit more advanced than I am here...

Basically, the problem is something like this

V3 - LIVETYPE TRACK 1 || LIVETYPE TRACK 2
V2 - Video Track 1 (overlayed) || Video Track 2 (overlayed)
V1 - Video Track 1 || Video Track 2

The result is that if I want to do a video transition between these two sets of "track collections" - I can't do one where it merges the three on one side with the three on the other, unless I export V1,V2 and V3 as its own .MOV file, where all are incorporated into one layer. Then I just do a transition between the two single layer files. But this adds unspeakable amounts of time (and possibly loses video quality from the intermediate step).

So I just want to have a transition between the collected V1 to V3 (track 1) and V1 to V3 (track 2) all at the same time...

And adding the transition to each layer doesn't work...

Hopefully this helps a bit in illustrating the problem. I will try to work on some screen caps...

Anyway, thanks for thinking about it...

OK I think I got ya now. just highlight your first set of layers and goto the Sequence? or Modify menu and select 'Nest items'.
