We recently had our macbook pro stolen and don't know how to transfer our P2 cards to our towers. We have a G5 and a Wintel 8-Core Mac, neither of which have PCMIA slots.
How are people getting their P2s onto their Macs if they don't have a laptop?
You can transfer your footage from your card using your HVX and a firewire cable, you just gave to put it into device mode. It's really easy I do it all the time with my iMac, the first thing you have to do is make sure you install the Panasonic P2 Drivers on the computer. Then you hook up the camera via firewire, turn on the cam and press the button in the rear of the camera that allows you to review your clips on the cameras LCD screen (MCR button I think, I don't have my HVX in front of me) once it's in playback mode hold that same button until you see 1394 Device show up on the LCD screen. At that point the P2 card will show up on your desktop and you can copy the contents. When your finished eject the card from the computer that way you normally do then turn of the camera and disconnect the firewire cable.
One thing you should know is transferring using this method takes a much longer time. I can transfer an 8 gig card in about 4 or 5 minutes with my powerbooks PCMIA card slot. Transferring that same card takes about 25-30 minutes via firewire.
