Transcoding my AVCHD files from my AF100 to FCPX

Apparently using the software 5DRGB gives better results than Log and Transfere in FCP 7 its suggested quicktime throws some info away that 5DRGB does not.
Now FCPX is built on AV foundation.. right..

Which is best AV foundation (FCPX) or 5DRGB

AV Foundation is what the app is built on, not an app itself. What is thrown away is metadata, not image data.

And the actual quote is; "The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason."

I just checked and at first glance it seems Transcoding with with FCPX is far better than FCP7. FCPX doesn't seem to add the noise that FCP7 does to my AF100's footage. As for the comparison to 5DtoRGB, I'll have to look a little closer to be sure, but it doesn't seem to add the chroma smoothing that 5DtoRGB does. In the same token the FCPX transcoded footage seems to be a little more color accurate than 5DtoRGB 1.5.3b. 5DtoRGB's footage is a little darker, but all the Latitude seems to be there, so it's not to big of a deal. I'll try to find a way to post the same clip, stock, transcoded via FCP7, transcoded via FCPX, transcoded via 5DtoRGB 1.5.3b, and one more transcoded with 5DtoRGB 1.5.8 Lite. That way everyone can download and check it out.

Thanks Brian... you know i am still in the habit of using FCP7 to ingest and then cutting on FCPX...a lot of my stuff was shot a while ago and i did a batch ingest with FCP 7...
