Tram TR-79+ power supply compatible with B6 or Pin-Mic?

Hi, does anyone know if the Tram TR-79+ power supply you can order with connections for pretty much any wireless mic transmitter would work for the Countryman B6 or Pin-Mic?

I want to buy a B6 or Pin-Mic for a Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 series body pack transmitter which as we all know uses a locking mini-plug connection.

While it's easy to order the B6 or Pin-Mic already wired for the Sennheiser kits, I also want to use them as hard-wired XLR lavs as well since my first preference is to always go hard-wired if possible.

The TR-79+ is reasonably priced, readily available (i.e. doesn't require a special order and waiting time like with the Pin-Mic PA1 adapter), and can be ordered with the Sennheiser miniplug connection on one end of the barrel and a XLR on the other...perfect.

I've reat that some people have tried the TR-79+ for just the purposes outlined above with different brand lavs than the TR50, and with perfect success...BUT this was only with some lavs. It's basically hit or miss. It'll work with some lavs, but not others.

My gut feeling is that it would work with the Pin-Mic since I read that the Pin-Mic mic element is basically just a Tram mic element.

On the other hand the B6, I'm not so sure about.

Can anybody confirm one way or another? I'd hate to buy a TR-79+ and just end up getting stuck with it and having to sell it for half price two weeks later if you know what I mean.

Thanks.

call trew audio and ask them - i am sure they did checked that issue - dont see any problem it wouldn't work , not to mention that every hard wire lav you buy you can convert for wierless work
so if you buy b-6 buy it with supply and make brake , the same is with a pin mike
as long you have ph power available from your camera or mixer the 79 has no any benefit

Yeah it works but you better call Trew because it comes in NEGATIVE BIAS or POSITIVE BIAS and you gotta' get the correct ps. Tell 'em it's for a B6 and if it's hardwired with a break or just straight locking mini.

Straight locking mini. I'm not sure how to install a "break" myself. I keep hearing about it, but I'm clueless about these sorts of things.

Anyone know of any places in Southern California that could make this "break" modification for me? How much should I expect to pay for such a modification? I believe you basically just take a hard wired XLR lav with the associated power barrel, then on one end of the wire cut it, and solder on the connection your wireless kit uses, then on the other wire solder on a female plug version of whatever connection your wireless kit uses.

Thanks.

You usually have to start with an XLR lav to begin with, but call Coffey Sound or Location Sound (add a dot com to either name and you get their site) and they can take care of it for you. Hollywood LA area. Dave Fisk from Coffey is a member here.

If you did it yourself it would cost you around $12, but to have them do it will be around $30.

One more question, the Tram power barrel can also be powered by a 1.5v watch style battery in lieu of phantom power.

Would this 1.5v battery also power other lavs such as the Countryman B6 or Pin-Mic assuming they are positive bias?

I ask, because I just realized I actually have the Tram postive bias power barrel already in my hardwired TR-50. The only difference is that on my power barrel, the wire is permanently attached vs. via a plug. It seems like all I'd need to do is pay someone to cut the attached wire and install the necessary stereo mini plugs and I'd basically be set.

As far as asking if the 1.5v battery power would work for other lavs besides the Tram, I ask because in addition to my Sennheiser G2 kit, I also have an Azden 500UDR with the 51xt xlr-plug-in transmitter. With the plug-in transmitter, I can already hook up my hard wired tram to it via the XLR male end of the power barrel; hence, effectively, making it wireless as well...so long as I plug-in the 1.5v battery for power.

If I modify my Tram power barrel to accept a mini plug connection on one end for the Sennheiser, that means that I could also use those same mini-plug lavs with my Azden unit as well by hooking them up via the 51xt butt-plug transmitter and powering them via the 1.5v battery on the Tram power barrel.

Sorry, if this sounds confusing. I'm probably stretching things a bit here...too penny pinching for my own good I guess.

The other option and I think simpler option would be to simply get a female stereo mini plug to a Hirose 4-pin male connector (the connection the Azden 500 series).

Then you could use the lav directly with the Sennheiser via the male mini plug, and when you wanted to use it with the Azden simply plug the male mini plug end into the female plug, and then plug hirose connection into the Azden 51BT belt pack transmitter, and you're good to go.

In theory, I think this would work. But again, I don't know diddley about this sort of thing.

Am I way off base here in my assumptions?

Thanks again.

the b-6 specified for 3.5 v , but iam sure it can work lower - with some slight decreasing in spl it can candle. you probably can use the tram power supply - but
if you will need 2 hard wire mikes - you are out - better for every one to keep each power supply for its mike usage and make the tram be modified for wireless use .
that way you will be able to work with b-6 directly to g-2 or hard wire or work with tram hooked to your Azden , g-2 or hard wire
my 2 lei -
