Training Book for FCP 5 over 6?

A friend bought me the Apple Pro Training book for FCP 5 as I'm about to make the switch from Vegas. What will I be missing out on if I end up getting FCStudio 2?

From a training perspective you won't be missing out on much. FCP6 has some new functionality that improves workflow, the new mixed timeline for example, that doesn't really effect training.

Using a book written for FCP5 with FCP6 should work fine.

As far as training goes you can accomplish all of this in FCP5 with the exception of Motion Templates, sending to color is the same as sending to Motion and regarding the open format timeline it a good idea to learn the proper way to setup sequence settings and not depend on the open timeline anyway.

Because of the improvements to Motion and the addition of Color the upgrade to FCS2 was worth the price, however, the upgrade from FCP6 adds little to no value.

As far as learning how to use the open format timeline, click yes to the dialog that asks you if you want set your sequence settings to match the first clip placed in a new timeline.

If yo have the money then obviously buy the book for FCP6. If your looking to get more value, use the FCP5 book and spend the money you might have spent on the FCP6 book and purchase a book for Motion3 or Color. You will be fine using a FCP5 book with FCP6.

Anyways as someone who uses FCP every day I respectfully disagree. This is a huge upgrade and you're doing yourself a disservice by training with the older book. But if the most important thing is saving a few bucks, go ahead with the 5 book. Everything that's there has a corollary in 6.
