TRAFFIC - great

Brandon Rice

Distributed Producer
So, I finally got around to seeing TRAFFIC all the way through...

This film has some of the best acting I've ever seen, all around. It's a very disturbing film, to me especially because the most disturbing thing to me in a film is drug usage... but wow, amazing flick... def. a clinic on performances... everything felt incredibly real.

You know the 3 wishes you get in life? Anyone? Beuller???

One of mine was for Don Cheadle to run for president.

I just got around to seeing this too, a couple of weeks ago, and lemme say, Del Toro is the man. He is the single coolest (and great!) actor this side of pre-Pirates Johnny Depp. Soderbergh did an awesome job as well, even though some of the choices he made regarding score (timing) and color theme were a bit over-the-top. But I liked it. A lot.

You find this disturbing?

I always found Traffic (like Soderbergh) to be overrated.

It didn't do it for me I guess.

Blasphemy, lol!

For me, Soderbergh is the man, the things he can do with actors (Traffic, K-Street, Full Frontal) is just amazing. Not to mention his incredible knack for camera work, ranging from Traffic to Ocean's Eleven. Then you add in his editing skills, The Limey is a fantastic example but all his films can represent, and I think you got one of the most talented (and low key) guys working today.

Btw can anyone name a director who works more atm? Rainer Werner Fassbinder did his thing back in the day. Soderbergh has at the moment, Che (2 part film) which I haven't yet seen, The Informant that just finished production, then he shot The Girlfriend Experience which just finished production, he working on an Untitled Spalding Grey Project, and has announced the idea of making a Liberace biopic, plus there are rumors of a live-action 3D Cleopatra movie, and he just announced a new mafia film Making Jack Falcone. The last 3 projects are just rumored but I wouldn't be surprised to see all 7 projects within a 2 years.

And the last thing I'll add about Soderbergh is he has some of the greatest audio commentaries ever (Schizopolis is my fav but it's unlike all his others). I'd recommend Out of Sight, Full Frontal, Ocean's 11, Sex Lies, basically them all! And besides commentaries for his own flicks he is on the Criterion of The Third Man, interviews Mike Nichols on Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Catch 22, and the Graduate, plus others.

Okay, I admit it, Soderbergh is probably my favorite living director so there may be bias here!

I've got to agree with you, John. Traffic was just okay for me. I enjoyed Ocean's Eleven and that's about it. (btw Absolutely hated Solaris.)

Traffic was an amazing film. And the directing was just phenomenal. Acting was top notch. This is what happens when you mix a great director with great acting and an incredible script. You get Traffic.
